DUBOIS 10-AND-UNDER ALL STARS WIN SECTION 1 TITLE

DuBois Little League 10-and-under All Stars are moving on!  They defeated Clarion by a final score of 9-6 in Meadville Friday night. This completed their run through the loser’s bracket to win the Section 1 title.  DuBois advances to the State Tournament in Indiana, PA.

They will play the winner of Section 8 at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

RUBBER DUCKS WILL GO DOWN CITY POOL SLIDE DURING JAYCEES’ DUCK DERBY

DuBois, PA – Once again, hundreds of ducks will be making their way down the slide at the DuBois City Pool for the DuBois Area Jaycees’ Duck Derby during the DuBois Relay for Life this Saturday!

This Saturday during the Relay for Life, come buy a ticket and sponsor a duck. Tickets are $2 each.

The first duck to make it to the other side of the pool will be the winner.

DuBois, PA – The American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is an event to celebrate survivorship and raise funds for cancer research, education, advocacy and service programs.

Come join the Relay for Life and the fight against cancer in the DuBois City Park on Saturday, July 21 from noon to midnight.

Susan Babik from the American Cancer Society says a lot of work goes on behind the scenes before the Relay even happens… the Relay for Life teams will start planning for next year’s event almost right after this year’s is finished!

 

STEELERS-THEMED ROLLER COASTER TO OPEN IN 2019 AT KENNYWOOD

West Mifflin, PA – A Pittsburgh Steelers-themed roller coaster is going to be replacing the recently closed Log Jammer at Kennywood.

The new ride is named The Steel Curtain and will break three records: World’s Tallest Inversion, North America’s Most Inversions, and Pennsylvania’s Tallest Rollercoaster. It’s expected to be open in the summer of 2019.

Kennywood’s engineers created a virtual point-of-view video of what it’s expected to feel and look like while riding in the front seat of the upcoming ride.

 

1,000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM AT LOCAL LIBRARIES

Brockway, PA – Congratulations to Josiah for completing the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at Mengle Memorial Library! Josiah read 1,000 books in a little over one year!

Early literacy is so important for children.  If a child enters school having already experienced listening to and looking at books as an enjoyable activity, they are more likely to start school ready to learn.

That’s why the 1,000 Books program was created.

FUN RUN AT COOK FOREST FOR WESTERN PA CARES FOR KIDS

Western PA Cares for Kids 2018 fun run

Cook Forest, PA – A Duathlon, 5K and Community Fun Walk will be held to benefit Western PA Cares for Kids this Saturday, starting at Cook Forest, shelter 2.

All proceeds benefit the kids’ advocacy center, where children who have been abused or have witnessed violence are interviewed by investigators, then help to relieve some of the trauma.

HUDDY FOR HAHNE MOTORCYCLE SHOW IN TREASURE LAKE

Treasure Lake, PA – A great way of raising money for the Hahne Cancer Center this weekend. On Saturday, it’s the Huddy for Hahne motorcycle show, in honor of Chuck Huddy.

Registration begins at 10 with judging at noon on Saturday. Awards will be given at 3.

Each bike costs $10 to register.

CUTTING COVE SALON GRAND OPENING ON SATURDAY IN FALLS CREEK

Falls Creek, PA – A new salon, The Cutting Cove in Falls Creek, is celebrating its grand opening this Saturday!

Although The Cutting Cove has already been open for business, they just recently joined the Greater Area DuBois Chamber of Commerce.

MISSING 9-YEAR-OLD BROOKVILLE GIRL FOUND UNHARMED

Brookville, PA – A 9-year-old Brookville girl has been found safe after she went missing on Monday evening.

Raine Brodmerkel had gone missing around 6 p.m. on Monday along Route 36 in Brookville, where she had been walking two small dogs.

Police released an update just before midnight last night, saying that the little girl had been located and was safe.

The dogs were also found unharmed nearby.
