Clearfield, PA – A Penfield man pleaded guilty to multiple cases, including deliberately wrecking an ATV, vandalizing state forest land while camping, and drug charges.
21-year-old Austin Smith had become known as “Wildman” for his graffiti and carvings on state forest property. He was sentenced to serve two months to a year in jail, plus two years of consecutive probation. He will also have a mental health assessment. Smith was fined $1,005 and must pay $771.74 in restitution. He will not be permitted on any state forest land.
Rangers found that Smith had been living on state forest land illegally. He was known for leaving graffiti with the name “Wildman” wherever he went, both painted and carved into trees. They also found pelts and animal carcasses by his camp, even though he had not held a hunting license since 2013.
He was also accused of deliberately wrecking an ATV with a female passenger in May, causing injuries to both of them. When he was taken into custody on several charges, he was found to have drug paraphernalia on him.
