PICTURE BOOK MONTH AT JEFFERSON COUNTY LIBRARIES
November 1 @ 8:00 am - November 30 @ 5:00 pm
November is Picture Book Month. Why celebrate picture books, especially now when information and entertainment seems to be always at our fingertips?
For one thing, no electronic device compares to the tactile and visual appeal of a well-illustrated story. The smooth feel of the glossy paper and the details and colors of the illustrations are an experience that cold, pixelated screens just can’t compare to.
It’s difficult to spend any amount of time studying an image on a screen; our brain seems to push us to hurry, hurry to what’s available at the next swipe. Picture books, on the other hand, are meant for study. Find the hidden details in the artist’s work and re-read the text over and over. Children learn to notice details and learn the value of stillness from picture books.
Adults reap benefits from picture books, too. Few things in life are as enjoyable as sharing a story with someone you love.
Celebrate Picture Book Month with the Jefferson County Library System this November. We invite you to visit your local library and peruse the picture book collection. You may rediscover an old favorite or find a new treasure.
The libraries of Jefferson County include Mengle Memorial Library in Brockway, Rebecca M. Arthurs Memorial Library in Brookville, Punxsutawney Memorial Library, Reynoldsville Public Library, Summerville Public Library, and Sykesville Public Library. Visit your library and read with us!
